Teacher resume example

A school reads a teacher resume for three things: what you teach and to which classes, your qualifications, and proof that your students learn. Here is a complete example for a secondary mathematics teacher in India with six years in two CBSE schools, plus tips that also work for teacher resumes in the US.

How to write your teacher resume

  1. Put subject, classes and board in the title

“TGT Mathematics, classes 8–10, CBSE” tells a principal in one line whether you fit the vacancy. In the US, write the subject, grade levels and state license instead.

  2. Show results, not only duties

Board exam averages, pass rates, the share of students who moved up a grade band or olympiad selections are the evidence a school wants. Give the before and after with the year.

  3. List qualifications the school must check

B.Ed, CTET or state TET and your degree with the subject belong near the top. US schools look for the state teaching certificate and endorsement.

  4. Name your classroom technology

Google Classroom, smart boards, GeoGebra, Desmos or a learning management system show you can teach in a mixed classroom. Add one line on how you used each.

  5. Add what you do outside the timetable

Remedial groups, clubs, olympiad coaching, mentoring new teachers and parent meetings show you take on more than your periods.

Questions

What should a teacher resume include?

Your subject and the classes you teach, your teaching qualifications (B.Ed and CTET or TET in India, a state license in the US), schools with dates, results such as board exam averages, classroom technology and activities beyond your periods.

How do I write a teacher resume with no experience?

Lead with your B.Ed or teaching credential and your teaching practice or student teaching: the school, the classes and what you taught. Add tutoring, coaching or volunteering with children, and your subject knowledge.

Should a teacher resume be one page?

One page for most teachers with under ten years of experience. Two pages are fine for heads of department or teachers with many certifications, as long as the first page shows your subject, qualifications and best results.
