How to write your dental assistant resume

  1. List your registration and radiography permit

Rules differ by state. Put your RDA, CDA or radiography permit near the top with the issuing board so the office knows you can take X-rays on day one.

  2. Name the procedures you assist with

Fillings, crowns, extractions, root canals, implants or orthodontics. A specialist office reads this line first.

  3. Show infection control as a result

Sterilization logs, spore tests and clean inspections are proof of the most important habit in the job.

  4. Mention practice software and equipment

Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental, digital sensors and scanners such as iTero. Each one you know saves training time.

  5. Include patient and front-desk skills

Calming nervous patients, explaining after-care and covering insurance checks make you useful in a small office.

Questions

What skills should a dental assistant resume include?

Chairside assisting, radiography, infection control and sterilization, impressions or scans, temporary crowns, practice software and patient care. Add front-office skills if you have them.

Do I need a certification to work as a dental assistant?

It depends on the state. Some require registration or a radiography permit for certain duties, and others train on the job. Check your state dental board and list what you hold.

How do I write a dental assistant resume with no experience?

Lead with your dental assisting program and its externship: the practice type, hours and the procedures you assisted with. Add BLS, any radiography permit and customer service jobs.
