How to write your LPN resume

  1. Show your license and state up front

Put LPN (or LVN in California and Texas) after your name and list the license state and any IV certification near the top.

  2. Give the size of your assignment

Number of residents on your medication pass, beds on the unit and CNAs you supervise. These numbers tell a director of nursing what you can carry.

  3. List skills that match your scope

Medication administration, wound care, tube feedings, catheter care, glucose checks and IV therapy where your state allows it. Be precise; employers check scope.

  4. Mention leadership if you have it

Charge duties, CNA supervision and training new staff are what separate one LPN resume from the next.

  5. Name your documentation system

eMAR, PointClickCare, MatrixCare or Epic. Facilities on the same system know you will be up to speed sooner.

Questions

What is the difference between an LPN and an RN resume?

Both show license, setting and patient load. An LPN resume focuses on hands-on care, medication passes and supervising CNAs under RN direction; an RN resume adds assessment, care planning and wider leadership.

Should an LPN list IV certification on a resume?

Yes. IV certification is required for IV work in many states and employers filter for it. Put it under licenses and certifications with the issuing body.

How long should an LPN resume be?

One page for most LPNs. Two pages can make sense after ten or more years with several settings or charge and management roles.
