How to write your CNA resume

  1. Lead with your certification

Add CNA after your name and give your certification its own line with the state. Many employers check the state nurse aide registry before they call you.

  2. Name your setting and resident load

Long-term care, rehab, hospital and home health are different days. Say where you work and how many residents or patients you care for per shift.

  3. Spell out the care you give

Bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, transfers with a Hoyer lift, vital signs, intake and output. Specific tasks read as experience; “patient care” alone does not.

  4. Show that you observe and report

Nurses rely on CNAs to notice changes first. One bullet about a change you spotted and reported shows judgment, not just tasks.

  5. Mention charting and availability

List the charting system you use, such as PointClickCare or Epic, and the shifts you can work. Facilities hiring for nights and weekends look for both.

Questions

What should a CNA resume include if I have no experience yet?

Put your training program near the top with its clinical hours and the setting where you did them. Add BLS, any caregiving for family members, and volunteer work with older people or people with disabilities.

Should I put my CNA certificate number on my resume?

You can list the state and your certificate number so employers can look you up in the nurse aide registry. Do not add personal ID numbers such as your Social Security number.

How long should a CNA resume be?

One page. A summary, two or three jobs or clinical placements, a skills list and your certification are enough for almost every CNA role.
