Customer service resume example

How to write your customer service resume

  1. Lead with your metrics

Customer service is measured all day: satisfaction (CSAT), first-contact resolution, average handle time, contacts per shift. Pick the two or three you are proud of and put them in your bullets.

  2. Name the channels and tools

Say whether you worked on phone, chat, email or in person, and list the help desk or CRM software you used. Many job ads ask for tools such as Zendesk, Freshdesk or Salesforce by name.

  3. Show one difficult situation

One bullet about handling an angry or complex case shows the soft skills every ad asks for. Describe what you did and how it ended, not just that you are “patient”.

  4. Mirror the job ad’s words

If the ad says “client support” or “customer success”, use the same phrase where it is true for you. It helps both the recruiter and any screening software match your resume to the job.

  5. Mention languages

A second language is a real advantage in customer service. Put it in your skills and, if you used it at work, in a bullet too.

Questions

What skills should a customer service resume include?

Communication, problem solving, de-escalation and accuracy, plus the tools you know, such as a help desk system, a CRM and your typing speed. Back up soft skills with a bullet that shows them in action.

How do I write a customer service resume with no experience?

Use jobs where you dealt with the public, such as retail, hospitality or volunteering. Describe how many people you served and the problems you solved.

Should a customer service resume have a summary?

Yes. Two or three lines with your years of experience, the channels you cover and one strong metric give the recruiter a quick reason to keep reading.
