How to write your internship resume

  1. Put education near the top

    For an internship, your degree, expected graduation date, GPA (if 3.0 or higher) and relevant courses are the first thing a recruiter checks.

  2. Treat projects like jobs

    Give each project a name, your role, the tools you used and a result: users, speed, a grade or a prize. Link to the code or a demo if you can.

  3. Keep campus jobs, and find the relevant part

    A help desk or teaching job shows you can explain technical things and handle a queue. Lead each bullet with that, not with the duty list.

  4. Match the internship’s keywords

    Read the posting and use its words for skills you really have, such as Python, SQL or Agile. Many companies screen internship applications with software first.

  5. Say when you are available

    Name the season and year you want, for example “summer 2027”, so the reader can match you to the right program.

What do I put on an internship resume with no experience?

Your education, relevant courses, class or personal projects, campus jobs, volunteering, clubs and skills. Describe projects the way you would describe a job: what you built, with what, and what happened.

Should I include my GPA on an internship resume?

Include it if it is 3.0 or higher, or if the posting asks for it. If your major GPA is higher than your overall GPA, you can show that instead and label it.

How long should an internship resume be?
